Former Hartford Courant sports writer Kevin Hayes has launched a monthly publication in Ellington, both in print and online, called The Sports Department. It covers high school sports in Ellington, Tolland and Vernon, college sports, as well as the recreation scene, travel and club activities. The latest edition of the paper is 24 pages and it has local ads and some notable contributing writers, including former Courant staffers David Heuschkel and Reid L. Walmark.
The Laurel asked Kevin about his venture and he told us the following: “Part of our mission statement and business plan is to provide regular contributions back to the communities that we serve. We try to do that in many ways, most notably a new program we have designed in which TSD donates money back to the various booster clubs which help to sustain interscholastic and club sports at all of our schools. We are also involved with all of the schools, encouraging aspiring journalists and writers to learn more about the industry through internships and shadowing with our staff.”

So adorable. I’ll brag about my hunsabd who went out of his way to give me a fabulous mother’s day. Between a brand new iphone, detailing my mom-mobile, and giving me a wake up back massage, he definitely made this mama’s day. how blessed are we all!
