President Biden is expected in Connecticut on Friday to take part in a gun safety summit that will include Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy. It will take place at the University of Hartford.
The president’s visit comes at an especially fraught time in our nation’s history. Biden’s predecessor is under indictment and faces the possibility of further indictment before the end of the year, Biden’s own campaign for re-election is underway, the economy is still recovering from the effects of the Covid pandemic, and we are heavily engaged as backers of Ukraine in its defensive battle with Russia.
With all this as backdrop, the president will be using his visit to attempt to highlight and gain support for legislation that might curtail the scourge of gun violence in the United States.
