Don Michak of the Journal Inquirer has a story on donations to Republican Senate Candidate Rob Simmons’ campaign (“Coal Industry Piles on Fuel for Simmons Run”). Don includes in his report that “Samuel Zell, the Chicago investor who owns the Hartford Courant, also made a second $2,400 contribution to Simmons.” Actually, the records seem to indicate that Zell gave Simmons $3,800 in the third quarter, but regardless….must be awkward for our reporter friends at the Courant when the big boss keeps writing checks to candidates the staff will cover.
