The FCC is delaying its decision on the proposed merger between Sinclair Broadcast Group and Tribune Media.

The deal, thought to be moving quickly toward approval, has now been delayed once again until at least mid-July. The transaction also needs approval from the U.S. Justice Department.

Tribune Media owns Fox 61 and WCCT in Connecticut. If Sinclair takes over there is a strong chance one or both stations will be forced to carry some of Sinclair’s HQ originated, conservative leaning, information programming.

There have also been reports in recent weeks that Sinclair will use the Tribune Media merger as a first step toward challenging Fox News in what is referred to as “the conservative media space.”
