Tribune Media has pulled out of its deal with Sinclair Broadcast Group ending the possibility, for now at least, that Fox 61 and WCCT in Connecticut would fall under the Sinclair umbrella.
Sinclair had planned to buy Tribune’s TV stations, but the FCC threw up flags on the deal after months of consideration. Tribune is now suing Sinclair for breach of contract.
From the beginning the proposed merger was opposed by various groups concerned about the size of the anticipated merged company and Sinclair’s penchant for forcing its local stations to carry right leaning political content.
