Nearly half a year since the retirement of long-time Day of New London editorial writer Paul Choiniere, the paper is still looking for his replacement. The Day’s latest ad includes a long list of job requirements that would seem to fill much more than 40 hours in anyone’s week. The posted pay range tops out at $55,000.
As we reported last year, CBSN is re-branding and will now call itself CBS News Streaming. This is part of an on-going effort to tie current CBS marketing to the legacy of the network in its prime. The network is adding new programming to the streaming network including Person to Person with Norah O’Donnell, an upcoming CBS Reports episode hosted by Gayle King(WFSB) and other programming hosted by top CBS personalities. The CBS Evening News will also be streamed in its entirety each night as part of the new line-up.
CNN is reporting CBS recently tried to recruit Brian Williams to anchor the Evening News, but he turned it down, twice. The network’s response to the report is another example of the failure of most news organizations to manage their own media relations well.
“With all of our recent hires, Bob Costa joining, and today’s streaming launch, it’s no surprise people are wondering who’s coming to CBS News next. But Brian Williams is not going to be doing the Evening News. End of Story.”
The statement includes three gross exaggerations, one purposeful evasion, and ends with a dash of rudeness. And someone is getting paid – perhaps even more than $55,000 a year – to come up with this!!
Finally – Jake Tapper is the latest CNN host to get his own show on the yet to be launched CNN+ streaming network. Jake Tapper’s Book Club will be a weekly show and it is expected to debut in the spring. Sound familiar?
