There’s lots of commentary out there about how we are living in a society of left-right, conservative-liberal, Democrat-Republican news silos. But what’s often overlooked is the possibility that the news media itself has its own information silo, or ecosphere, on Twitter.
As Axios reports, Twitter is the one social media platform most used and loved by journalists. It’s where news breaks, it’s where the news cycle is set, it’s where journalists talk with each other about the news and try to out-do each other with snarky commentary.
Like news outlets that try to cater to niche markets of true believers, Twitter may be responsible for shaping the perspective of journalists in a way that distorts reality. Which in turn would distort the reality of the news audience.
