Legendary Waterbury radio station WATR-AM and its FM translator have been sold to Trignition Media, the current owners of WWCO in Waterbury and WRYM in Hartford. Both the Trignition Connecticut stations are Spanish language.
WATR, first licensed in 1934, was one of nearly a dozen 5,000 watt radio stations in Connecticut – that at their peak – were as important to their regional communities as the local paper. WATR sold for $320,000.
