One of our favorite newsroom thinkers is raising concerns about the plight of journalists as individuals.
In an article posted on Poynter.org, Matt DeRienzo says it’s important to focus our concerns on how the evolution of the news industry is disrupting the lives of thousands of reporters who have developed very specific and valuable skills.
DeRienzo’s concern is that there are not many places, outside journalism, that value the skills reporters develop over the course of their careers. He suggests paying attention to the future of reporters as individuals is just as important as seeking out sustainable business models for the entire industry.
