A New York Times story on human resources problems at WNYC and in the general public radio community asks: Is public radio a bastion of bullies or whiners?
As I read the story last week about the dismissal of Bob Garfield, and contemplated other firings in recent years, I asked myself a similar question. In the world of public radio, what workplace issue, what great matter of life and death, could be so big that it would lead the stars of this world to mistreat their co-workers? It is hard to imagine an issue, inside a public media newsroom(or anywhere for that matter) that could be that important.
