Shepard Smith, who would have made an interesting choice as a replacement for Brian Williams on the 11th Hour at MSNBC, will guest host NBC Nightly News tonight(Friday).
Smith has had moments of personal controversy in his career, but is seen as one of those people – formerly of Fox News – who couldn’t take Fox’s hard lurch to become the voice of the conservative movement, and left. Quietly, but he left.
ICYMI – he has been anchoring a straight news show on CNBC – which provides the connection to NBC News, but seems to be less than a full use of his talents. A sign of things to come? Past practice at the networks shows this sort of guest assignment is often an audition for something else.
