In the view of at least one writer, email and podcasting are among the top news media stories of the year.
Elite Truong, writing for Poynter, says email newsletters saw a resurgence in 2015 as a means to promote niche journalism and build an audience. Podcasts meantime are breathing new life into audio storytelling.
Perhaps the best examples of the podcast trend are the second season of Serial, which broke a major story by airing interviews with Bowe Bergdahl, and President Obama’s decision to take part in Marc Maron’s podcast WTF – which is produced in Maron’s garage.
