Less than a month after it started CNN+ is shutting down at the end of April.
The new owners of CNN, Warner Bros. Discovery says its start has been unimpressive and reporting on the story indicates they were never fans of the idea, but couldn’t do much about it during merger talks.
“While today’s decision is incredibly difficult, it is the right one for the long-term success of CNN,” Chris Licht, the network’s incoming president, told staff.
Licht, who is originally from Connecticut, is taking over as CNN’s new president May 2.
This is a huge business story with ramifications for the growing yet troubled streaming industry and for dozens of people, including high priced talent, who were hired specifically to host programs on CNN+.
