Sacred Heart University, which owns and oeprates WSHU (public radio), has bought AM stations WSTCWNLK which have providing local broadcasts since the 1920s. More from the Norwalk Hour:

“As a public radio station, we consider ourselves to be a community resource, and we always look for ways to increase the service we provide our community,” George Lombardi, general manager of WSHU, said in a statement. “We are thrilled about this new opportunity, as we can now serve Norwalk, Stamford and Greenwich with an expanded, more reliable broadcast signal than we ever had before.”

Lombardi said the purchase allows WSHU to expand its signal into lower Fairfield County, an area that was previously out of reach. WSHU will take over broadcasting Sunday night, following a sendoff with John Labarca, host of Italian House Party. Special guests of the live morning show include Norwalk Mayor Richard A. Moccia, Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia and U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal.

“I’m gonna go out with a bang,” Labarca said in a telephone interview Tuesday. “We’re going to laugh a little, we’re going to cry a little.”

  1. This sale must NOT go through. It is against all principles of free speech and a diversity of opinion.

WSHU is a censorship organization, they do their censorship by banning the public from accessing the airwaves, and by limiting themselves to PBS PRI and NPR type programs..

The sale will be taking away any access for local residents to broadcast their shows over the public airwaves, at least Cox radio had brokered shows.

And your clueless manager George suggested these radio stations knowing well WDJZ is a daytime only station and Wvox has 122 watts at night and barely gets past Port Chester.

——-The following 2, near by, stations are big on Sponsored Programs, so you might want to contact them:WVOX – New Rochelle – or WDZJ Bridgeport –

America needs voices to be heard and WSHU makes a mockery of this……by programming only Government radio shows.

Yes you will have Labarca on Saturdays but what about all the other 29 hosts and previous ones that spend Hundreds of thousands of dollars a year at Cox radio to develop their own quality shows….

We must put a stop to this sale….unless WSHU puts it in writing that the public is welcome to use the public airwaves on a public radio station.
