Okay, we have a bias here, as we’re working to promote Connecticut’s next major tourist attraction: the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook. But it’s worth noting that the venue, opening in 2009, is getting some high-profile help from a member of the Connecticut news ranks. Ann Nyberg, longtime anchor at News Channel 8 in New Haven, is on the board of trustees of the theater, and has put “The Kate”, as it is becoming known, on Facebook to generate enthusiasm and dollars. The Kate is located in Old Saybrook because the iconic 4-time Academy Award winning actress spent summers there all her life. The non-profit venue is in the old Town Hall built in 1910. Nyberg is writing the blog for the theater which is www.katharinehepburntheater.org. The curtain goes up this summer (2009) and The Kate will feature, comedy, music, drama, opera, author events, and drama camps for children during the summer.
