The Sinclair Broadcast Group is making news by shutting down news operations at five of its stations nationwide. The latest in Gainesville, Florida.
In each case local news shows are being replaced by a regional newscast, produced by Sinclair, called The National Desk. The changes have resulted in dozens of layoffs in the targeted markets.
You may remember Sinclair was attempting to buy a group of stations that include Fox 61 in Connecticut in 2018 before the deal was stopped because of concerns over cross ownership.
